Eligibility for Major SBA Programs - HUBZone Program
Established by Congress in the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997, the HUBZone program assists small businesses located in “historically underutilized business zones” which after October 2000 will apply to all federal agencies and department. There is no disadvantaged ownership requirement and the firm must be small, 100% owned and controlled by U.S. citizens and have its principal office located in a HUBZone. A HUBZone is defined as a qualified census tract or a non-metropolitan county with an unemployment rate not less than 140% of the statewide average or a median household income less than 80% of the non-metropolitan state median household income. More than 7,000 census tracts and 900 counties currently qualify as HUBZones and the SBA maintains a webpage with a map of qualified zones at www.sbaonline.sba.gov/huzone/ .
